The L&H has produced many distinguished members of society.
The Auditor of the Literary and Historical Society at University College Dublin, Ireland is a position elected by the members of the society. In this setting, the term auditor has no connection with accounting but means "a position corresponding to that of President of the Union at Oxford or Cambridge". Some former auditors of the society have gone on to careers of high distinction in law, politics, medicine, academia, journalism, and other endeavours. Previous Auditors the L&H include former President of Ireland Cearbhaill O'Dálaigh, comedian Dara O’Briain, former Supreme Court Justice Mary Finlay Geoghegan, writer Gerard Stembridge and former Managing Director of BCG Ian Walsh. A list of former Auditors can be found here.
Serving on past committee were writers James Joyce and Flann O'Brien, actor Chris O’Dowd, current Chief UK Business Correspondent for the FT Michael O’Dwyer, barrister Caoilfhionn Gallagher, current Attorney General of Ireland Rossa Fanning and the first Chief Justice of the Irish Free State Hugh Kennedy.
